The CSWCD has always upheld gender-responsive teaching, research and extension services. In fact, it houses the only degree-granting unit for gender studies in the Philippines, the Department of Women and Development Studies. Undergraduate curricula in the Department of Community Development and the Department of Social Work have also several gender courses. Its GAD Committee is also among the best performing GAD Committees in UP Diliman.
One area of improvement in the college’s efforts at promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment lies in the online arena, which continues to prove to be a powerful arena for public information and education. While CSWCD maintains an online presence with its website and social media accounts, the presence of gender and development facts, concepts and issues could be more visible, and more importantly, these concepts and issues could be made more accessible to the public – not only to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment but to enrich gender-responsive resources for students, researchers, and teachers. The CSWCD Gender Corner Online project will fill this gap.
The CSWCD Gender Corner Online is a weblog that presents gender and development facts, concepts and issues made accessible to the general public and particularly to the CSWCD community. Examples of accessible materials are info graphics, posters, video clips, and similar visual presentations, as well as article briefs. These presentations will be put up in the weblog, and linked with and shared in the CSWCD website and online social media accounts. The CSWCD Gender Corner Online shall have a monthly theme, with weekly presentations.
It is the objective of the CSWCD Gender Corner Online to inform the public, as well as enrich resources for students, researchers, and teachers, on gender and development facts, concepts and issues by presenting them online in accessible digital forms.
